How far are you from home?

Choose where you live now and pin your family’s house on the map. We show the distance between you, how long it would take to get there, and the time at home right now.

Where is your family’s home?

A number every immigrant carries

Everyone who lives abroad knows roughly how far home is, but seeing the exact number is different: thousands of kilometres, a few hours by plane, or months on foot. The tool measures the straight-line distance between your city and the spot you pin, then turns it into journeys you can picture.

How the times are estimated

The flight time assumes a direct flight at cruising speed plus an hour on the ground. Car, ship and walking times use average speeds and a detour allowance, because roads and sea routes are never straight. They are illustrations, not schedules.

Frequently asked questions

Is my home location saved or sent anywhere?

No. The pin stays in your browser. Only the map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap.

Why is the plane time different from my real flight?

Real trips include connections and waiting. The tool shows a direct flight, the shortest possible time.

Can I share the result?

Yes. Make an image card and send it to your family on WhatsApp.

My city is not in the list.

Choose the nearest city, or use your current location for where you live and the map for home.
