What comes off a Canadian salary

Federal income tax (from 14.000000000000002% to 33%), provincial income tax, Canada Pension Plan contributions (5.95% on earnings between $3,500 and $74,600, then 4% up to $85,000) and Employment Insurance (1.63% up to $68,900).

Ontario adds a surtax for higher earners and the Ontario Health Premium (up to $900 a year); Alberta has the highest provincial personal amount and no surtax. British Columbia raised its lowest rate to 5.6% for 2026. Quebec is different: provincial tax is paid to Revenu Québec at higher rates, federal tax is cut by the 16.5% Quebec abatement, and you pay QPP, a lower EI rate and QPIP. Some Quebec rules are pending final review; treat Quebec results as estimates.
